Spartacus: War of the Damned: Turning Point for Crixus and Naevia

This is from TV Line's Matt's Inside Line: http://tvline.com/2013/02/21/scandal-once-upon-time-greys-spoilers/

When speaking with Manu Bennett about his run on Arrow, I was also sure to see what he could spoil about this last season of Spartacus – including the series finale.

“We’re at a big turning point now between Crixus and [his lover] Naevia, who’s suddenly taken a turn toward the dark side,” he previewed.

“She has slipped into a pre-Season 2 mentality, having obviously [suffered] a bigger injury than what Crixus thought after the fight with Ashur. Her hatred and need for vengeance has risen back to the surface, and how Crixus deals with that is what the next couple of episodes are about.”

As for the series-ender airing April 12, he says this: “I would love to be a fly on the wall in every room where we have fans, as they watch it because … it brought me to tears. The way this one is being crafted together, it really is a masterpiece.”

Spartacus Nominated For 2013 Saturn Awards

The 2013 Saturn awards nominations were announced yesterday. Great news, Spartacus is up for three. I'm a little surprised that "War of the Damned" received 2 noms, as only 3 episodes have aired thus far. Perhaps the committee for the awards received advanced copies of episodes?

I'm ecstatic that Todd Lasance received a nod, congratulations, but I wish that Liam, Dustin, Dan, Manu, and Cynthia could have been included as well. I know, I know, not everyone can get a nomination, and bad me for casting a wee bit of negativity on this great news, but it's because they've all done stellar work this season and in previous seasons, that I feel a little something should be said.

On that note here are the nominations:

Spartacus War Of The Damned Episode 4 Scene Clip "Gannicus vs. Crixus"

Wow this looks good. Gannicus, whom I think is probably an alcoholic by today's terms, has the clearest mind of all. He doesn't have the 'kill all romans' or 'romans are all evil'  mentality that Crixus and Naevia have. I suspect that many of the rebels feel the same way as Crix and Naev.

In season one I felt Spartacus was more like a modern thinker, in that he saw how wrong things were. I think Gannicus may be very similar here now(and even in Vengeance), only it's all turned around onto the rebels themselves.

I wrote about a spoiler for episode 4 in a previous post, where I also commented about Crixus and Naevia going dark. You can read it here.

This is about episode 8, and so a spoiler tag. I don't find it spoiler-ish at all. It doesn't give any specifics away. More like a tease. However everyone is differents so don't click on it if you don't even want to know anything whatsoever about future episodes, albeit just a tease.

Lucy Lawless Sentenced

Great news, Lucy and her fellow Greenpeace activists were sentenced today, and the sentence was minimal!

Seven Greenpeace activists, including actress Lucy Lawless, found guilty of illegally boarding the Noble Discoverer drillship have been sentenced to community work and fined.........

.......Judge Roberts sentenced the activists to 120 hours community work and ordered them to pay Port Taranaki $651.44 each.

There's a video of Lucy reading a statement outside the courthouse after sentencing, but I notice they placed a different old video as the main post and you have to scroll down to find today's video. So here is the direct video link: http://www.stuff.co.nz/lightbox/taranaki-daily-news/videos/8273831/Lucy-Lawless-sentenced?

Spartacus War Of The Damned Exclusive TV Guide Video: 'Bread or Death'

There is an exclusive scene from Spartacus War Of The Damned episode 3 ‘Men Of Honor’ at TV Guide. It doesn't have an embed option, but you can see it here:
http://www.tvguide.com/News/Spartacus-Exclusive-Video-1060298.aspx

The idea of Crixus and Naevia seemingly going to the darkside caused quite a buzz with fans when I posted it at my tumblr:
http://klippfandom.tumblr.com/post/42280222074/spartacus-exclusive-video-bread-or-death

This is one of the things I love about this show. The layers! It's not the angelic Justice League vs the evil  Legion of Doom! Indeed the Romans don't even see themselves as villains. That's how they see the rebels however. And vice versa.

I watched the second episode last night. I'm about to talk about it, so close-out if you haven't seen it yet. Here we saw Spartacus catch a glimpse of the consequences of what his rebellion is doing. Laeta doesn't seem so bad, she seems kind and abhors cruelty. The little girl and mother that died....there's no way the child is guilty of anything! Spartacus ordering the rebels to leave off killing anymore Roman citizens, and now this preview video.

Who can blame Naevia and Crixus for treating the Romans this way? I can't quite bring myself to blame them, but remember that old saying: 'two wrongs don't make a right!' It would seem that everything they hated about the romans, they are about to become by dishing out the same kind of cruelty to roman citizens. Citizens that might not be so bad. Remember Varro? He and his family were roman citizens. Until he traded himself as a gladiator to pay off his gambling debts. Right from the very beginning we saw that he was an alright guy and loyal friend to Spartacus.

This brings me to a spoiler I saw last week from TV Line about episode 4(go away if you don't want to be spoiled):

Question: Love your columns! Any scoop on Spartacus: War of the Damned? —Rich
Ausiello: The Feb. 22 episode is not for the faint of heart — and that’s saying something for a show that featured a bunch of children eating raw horse intestines. “For a long time [the show] shied away from the cruelty and the negativity of the rebellion,” notes leading man Liam McIntyre of Spartacus & Co. “And in Episode 4 that really gets put front and center. It gets real dark. The rebels were famous for not just being like Robin Hood-and-his-merry men, but also for raping and pillaging across the country. That component had to be addressed. It’s reprisal time, and it gets graphic and horrible to watch.” And yes, Spartacus gets his hands dirty, too. “There’s a scene at the end of the episode where he’s forced to make a very big call,” reveals McIntyre. “And it defines how his journey plays out the rest of the season.

That sounds interesting! And seems to fit in line with historical events. I wonder if Crixus and Naevia going "dark" is what will break up Spartacus' army? I'm glad the show  has never been dumbed down  ala: "the good guys" vs "the bad guys." That would be too easy, and such a simplification of human beings in general. My favorite new character, btw, is Crassus. So far I find him clever, noble, and in general very likable. I think he's in love with his slave, Kore, and here you see a softer side of him.
